You hopefully know that you should go to see your dentist every six months for a checkup and a cleaning, but there are other things about your oral health that you may not know much about, including when you should see an emergency dentist. So, what are some signs that you should go in and see an emergency dentist? This article will explore a little more.

1. Your face is swollen

One of the biggest signs that you have an oral infection is if your face is swollen. Oftentimes, if you have an infected tooth and it gets worse, it can lead to a host of swelling not only in your cheeks but in your throat as well. If you notice that you have facial swelling that is getting worse, then it's definitely time to take yourself to an emergency dental service. They will not only help to treat the infection but they will usually put you on an antibiotic as well.

2. You lost a tooth

Losing a tooth as an adult is a lot less exciting than losing a tooth when you are a kid. When you are a kid, it's normal to lose a tooth, but as an adult, it's the opposite of normal. Whether you recently lost a tooth in an accident or if it just fell out, then you should definitely come in and see an emergency dentist. Your dentist will not only clean out the gums and make sure that everything looks okay, but they will also replace it with a dental prosthesis like a dental bridge or implant.

3. Your tooth went numb

Another indicator that you need to go to see an emergency dentist is if your tooth suddenly went numb. When your nerves are so infected or if you were recently injured in the mouth, it can sometimes cause your tooth to become numb and desensitized. This is something that needs to be looked at right away because it may need an immediate procedure like a root canal.

Going to see the dentist is something that not everybody loves to do, but it's definitely a necessity. Going to see an emergency dentist is something that you may never have thought about doing, but there are definitely times in your life when it is urgent that you see one. Now that you know a few signs, it's time to reach out to your dentist and find out who they recommend as an emergency dentist.
